There was tension in Delta state on Monday as some gunmen reportedly kidnapped nine students who were travelling along the East-West Road Ughelli, Delta state.
Delta State Police Command spokesman, Edafe Bright, confirmed that the occupants of the vehicle were possibly students who were returning from their school in Calabar Cross River State on Friday night.
Edafe said no ransom had been demanded by the kidnappers while security agents were on the trail of the abductors.
“The Command is aware of this ugly incident, and we are doing all it takes to ensure that they are rescued unhurt,” he tweeted on his X handle.
However, not long after Edafe’s update, he returned to confirm that all the nine students had regained their freedom.
“All nine of the victims have regained their freedom pls,” he confirmed in a fresh tweet.
There has been an increase in the wave of kidnappings in some parts of the country, especially Delta stare where about 17 soldiers were recently murdered in Ughelli by men suspected to be community hoodlums.
