The top heirarchy of the Nigeria Police on Tuesday remained silent over the mysterious death of its own, a Deputy Commissioner of Police Gbolahan Olugbemi.
Olugbemi reportedly hanged himself in his private apartment in Ogbomoso, where he had travelled to from Lagos to celebrate Easter.
A noose was said to have been found in his neck when his lifeless body was discovered on Monday.
NPO Reports gathered that though the report of Olugbemi’s sudden and mysterious death has reached the office of the Inspector General of Police having been briefed by the Oyo state command, it was learnt that the Force Headquarters has preferred to wait till the end of its preliminary investigations before making any categorical and official statement. A source within the force told the NPO Reports on Tuesday that so many theories are being considered in arriving at the possible cause of death of the late top cop.
There are considerations what could be the motivation for suicide if the late DCP had indeed taken his own life. There are also concerns over whether the case was a murder orchestrated to appear like suicide. Olugbemi was a former Aide De camp to former Governor of Oyo State Adebayo Alao-Akala. He also at various times, served as Personal Assistants to former Commissioners of Police in Lagos state.
