Scores of people have been reportedly killed in the Kukawa village of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The deaths occurred during airstrikes by the troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadarin Daji.
But the military said its strikes did not kill civilians in the course of fighting and killings insurgents who were said to be lurking around the areas.
Villagers said they were performing the eid prayer to marek the end of Ramadan when they say jet fighter and loud sound.
Many people, according to eyewitness took to their while many especially elderly and children were caught up in the strikes.
The spokesperson of Operation Hadarin Daji, Lieutenant Suleiman Omale, said the military was fighting bandits and not the innocent people of the state.
He added that he was not aware of any civilians killed during the bombardment.
“We are fighting bandits, not the innocent Nigerians. I am not aware of any civilian that was killed during the operation.”
