A group of activists are planning to storm the headquarters of the Nigeria Police in Abuja on Thursday to demand immediate release of Mr. Daniel Ojuwkwu who has been under arrest.
Ojukwu’s arrest has been a subject of intense allegations against the Nigerian authorities in the last few days after he was allegedly picked up.
The Free Daniel Ojukwu Coalition in a notice seen on Wednesday said the protest will take place at the Luis Eder House headquarters of the police in Area 11 the Federal Capital Territory.
The management of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) which Ojukwu works for, has said he was detained by the police over a story on contract procurement by the office of the senior special assistant to the president on sustainable development goals (OSSAP-SDGs).
Force Spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi said Ojukwu has case to answer over cyber crime issues.
Ojukwu’s report had captured an alleged payment for the contract for the construction of classrooms into the account of a company that runs a restaurant in Abuja.
Bukky Shonibare who is the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the FIJ has also confirmed that the protest will hold tomorrow.
