Three Americans have been detained over alleged involvement in a failed coup attempt in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to the Democratic Republic of Congo military, they stopped an attempted coup near the presidential palace.
Meanwhile, the coup which left many people dead was allegedly led by US-based Congolese politician, Christian Malanga.
He was killed at the presidential palace after he resisted arrest.
However, the US ambassador to Congo, Lucy Tamlyn has confirmed the involvement of US citizens in a recent statement.
Additionally, 50 people have been arrested among which the three Americans were among.
A passport of one of these Americans has however now gone viral, indicating that he is a 36-year-old U.S. citizen born in Maryland.
