There was drama at the Cross Rivers State House of Assembly as members engaged in a free-for-all following the impeachment of the speaker, lvert Ayambem.
Recall that NPO made reports that Anyambem was impeached on Wednesday over issues of gross misconduct and high-handedness.
The chaos started as the sitting rounded up, with members exchanging punches over the mace.
The fisticuffs ended the sitting which saw 17 members out of 25 impeach Ayambem on allegation of financial misappropriation, Channels Television reports.
The motion for Ayambem’s impeachment was moved by Effiom Ekarika, representing Calabar South 1 state constituency, and seconded by Hon. Oman Charles Oman, representing Bekwarra state constituency.
He was said to have indulged in arbitrary expenditure, contrary to Section 9(1) of the state Legislative Funds Management Law, 2021.
Additionally, NPO reported that he misappropriated the sum of N48 million meant for the payment of the assembly’s electricity bills.
