The Labour Party has on Friday won the United Kingdom general election in what has been described as a landslide.
Keir Starmer, former Director of Public Prosecution and leader of the Labour Party is the MP representing Holborn and St Pancras.
He has led his party to victory winning 411 seats in the parliament leaving the Conservative Party with 119.
“We said we will stop the chaos. And we will. We said we will turn the page. And we have. The work of change begins today,” Starmer said amidst jubilations with supporters.
The Conservatives have lost power after 14 years in what has been said to be a major setback for the party.
Already, congratulatory messages are pouring in for Starmer with the news of his election going wild.
French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Starmer saying, “We will continue the work begun with the UK for our bilateral cooperation, for peace and security in Europe, for the climate and for AI.”
Macron made this know via his X handle on Friday.
Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Tradeu, said “Congratulations, @Keir_Starmeron a historic U.K. election victory. Lots of work ahead to build a more progressive, fair future for people on both sides of the Atlantic. Let’s get to it, my friend.”
