At least two persons have been confirmed dead after violence erupted in Araromi-Owu, a town in Ayedade Local Government Area of Osun state on Tuesday.
The violence was said to have erupted over the lingering tussle for the kingship of the town.
Confirming the development, spokesperson of the Osun police command, SP Yemisi Opalola said a mobile police force has been deployed to the town along with a special police unit to restore peace.
The Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Security, Barrister Samuel Ojo said two casualties have been recorded.
He said the crisis would have been brutal if not for government intervention since some days ago.
“We have intervened into the situation since five days ago and managed that it does not become very brutal. Only two persons have been killed not five and presently, all the heads of security outfits in the state are already aware and working to restore law and order in the community”, he added.
Meanwhile, the state government has sued for peace in Orile Owu and Araromi Owu communities.
The state Governor Ademola Adeleke, also approved that security operatives should immediately be stationed in the areas and protect the communities by maintaining law and order.
