#EndBadGovernance Protesters have on Friday held a mourning session for victims of extra judicial killings recorded during the protest.
The organisers who held a press conference turned the event to an opportunity to hold procession to mourn those who died or were badly injured.
While mourning the deceased, the protesters declared the protest a success on account of their ability to defy court orders restricting their movements across the nation.
Addressing the Press was human rights Lawyer, Festus Ogun, who knocked the Federal Government for their attempts in foiling the protest.
“The only language that the Nigeria state understand is protest. And because they are allergic to any form of critcism, they do not want us to protest. But we have already done that and that makes the struggle a success already.
While lauding the efforts of the protesters, Ogun warned against issuance of court order to deter citizens’ agitations.
“Military will not go to court to obtain a court order to restrain comrades from protesting. But in a supposed democracy, a constitutional democracy, we are having an experience where court orders are been obtained to restrain protesters.
“I think we must challenge that order moving forward so that we can clear the precedents.
“It is too dangerous for our democracy. It is a very dangerous precedent. Under the guise of that court order, they could arrest a lot of people.
“And because they know that we have a justice system that is painfully weak, they know how they can take advantage of the system to victimize the people.
“That court order is a violation of Human Right. It is unconstitutional. If you look at Section 45 of the constitution, it says that these rights are not absolute.
“Nobody is doubting that- if the right to life is not absolute. But you can only restrict that right through a law under section 45.
“That constitution did not say that you can restrict a person’s right by court order, It is not part of the restriction to a person’s fundamental right. It is not there.” Ogun said.
