Sequel to the death of the Emir of Gobir, Isa Bawa, former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has accused the Federal Government of its failure in addressing the spate of insecurity in the country.
In a condolence message to the deceased family posted on his X handle today, Atiku said the FG’s lack of concern and poor security strategies has amounted to an increase in distressing events such as the death of the Emir at kidnappers’ den.
“The heinous act of violence perpetrated by bandits resulting in the untimely demise of such a revered leader is a stark reminder of the pressing need for enhanced security measures in safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.
“The failure of government to show concern or devise effective security strategies has undoubtedly contributed to the escalation of such distressing events in recent times.” He wrote.
Atiku expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and Gobir community, emphasizing the need for the government to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
“It is important to reiterate that government must provide security that will ensure the protection of lives, such that individuals do not have to live in fear of falling victims to senseless acts of violence.” He added.
The community of Gobir Emirate and the government of Sokoto State was thrown into mourning following the death of Sarkin Gobir Isa Bawa, the District Head of Gatawa District in Sabon Birni local government. He was killed by bandits who kidnapped him last month.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and highlighted the urgent need for improved security measures to protect citizens’ lives and property.
In addition, Critics argued that the government’s inaction and failure to develop effective security strategies have contributed to the surge in such distressing events.
