Governors Weaponised, Collected Jonathan’s Money But Did Not Mobilise Votes for Him – Abati

Former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Rueben Abati, has disclosed how many governors deceived his boss ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
Abati, while commenting on the declaration for presidency by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday and the attendant fallouts, said the governors of the North were mobilized, empowered and even weaponised to mobilise support for Jonathan but they did not do anything.
Abati, on the Arise TV live programme said though the meetings Osinbajo and fellow presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu had with governors on Sunday and Monday reflected the importance of the governors in the scheme of things, he expressed doubt over how reliable any presidential candidate can rely on them for his electoral victory.
“In 2015, these Governors were mobilized, empowered, and even weaponised but at the end of the day, they did nothing,” he recalled.
Abati said it was so bad that in some campaigns in some Northern states, the governors mobilized their people to attend rallies but were surreptitiously telling their people not to vote for Jonathan.
He said this was after they collected money and promised to work for Jonathan’s victory.
