Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Custom Service has handed over 1,153 parcels of seized cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
This was disclosed in a broadcast shared on their official X handle.
According to the broadcast, Custom officials had, on the 3rd of July 2024, intercepted a truck conveying the illict substance concealed in an attempt to evade inspection.
The N57.6 million worth of consignments were displayed on Wednesday ,28th August, by the Area Controller of the Command, Faith Ojeifo.
Addressing the Press, Ojeifo decried how smugglers have become crafty in their undying effort to deceitfully bypass the Customs inspection.
“It is quite unfortunate that die-hard smugglers will stop at nothing to carry out their evil enterprise. In order to trick our officers, they have developed ways of using modified vehicles to smuggle goods.
“They have even gone as far as displaying their dexterity by skillfully fabricating trucks with false body and bottom to mainly conceal those dangerous drugs with the intention to deceive our operatives.” He said.
Ojeifo commended to effort of the operatives in intercepting the smugglers foiled attempt and vowed to honour the officers who made he seizure.
“During one my parade with my officers, I made a pledge to honour any officer who exhibit exceptional performance.
“The tenacity and doggedness of the officers who made this seizure will not go unnoticed.” He added.
