Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson, has come under fire from netizens as mixed reactions trail her campaign for the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, ahead of the Edo 2024 governorship election.
Following the emergence of a viral video of her campaign for the APC at Esan West Local Government Area of the state on X, the actress was met with reactions from fans and netizens alike.
NPO Reports Mercy Johnson’s endorsement of Okpebholo on Thursday as the actress decried lack of public infrastructures in the state.
Reacting to the video, an X handler, Odukoya Isaac, talked down APC’s celebrity endorsements tactics.
“APC always looking for celebrities to use and Nigerians always waiting for these celebrities to decide for them….
“APC knows Nigerians weakness and exploit it well…
So if una like, don’t wise up. You are voting for APC not mercy Johnson” He wrote.
For Tayo Muyiwa, Mercy Johnson has allegedly been paid for the PR talk .
“Aunty don collect money for PR..
Allow her, she’s only doing her job.
It’s left to you to use your sense and vote for who you think is the right candidate” he wrote.
Etim John was not surprised as he claimed Mercy Johnson’s is a politician.
“What were you guys expecting from a wife of a politician in Nigeria, was y’all thinking 💭 she was gonna be different! Jokes on y’all.” John wrote.
Similarly, ZhinnyOG claimed the actress endorsement was borne out of the fact that her husband is an APC member.
“You expect her to be disloyal to her husband? It is called ‘conditional support’. I am very sure, if her husband was not an APC member, she will be 100% Obidient. So leave her alone.” Zhinny wrote.
However, some netizens demanded for Mercy Johnson should be left alone to exercise her individual right.
“Everyone has the right to support who they want, but they should also know that every action has a consequence.” Ezebunafo wrote.
Similarly, Olasunkanmi Emmanuel called for the respect of the actress’ civil right.
“Anybody has the civil rights to support whatsoever political party they choose to” He wrote.
