Chelsea Football Club has fired first-team manager, Liam Rosenior, hours after leading the club to its worst scoring drought in 114 years.
The club announced the gaffer’s sacking on Wednesday following a catastrophic run of form that has left the West London side’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread while they also endured their worst goalscoring drought in over a century.
Rosenoir’s sacking came barely 24 hours after Brighton handed the World Champions their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat.
The Seagulls secured a 3-0 victory against Chelsea on Tuesday in what would see the West London club drop to seventh position on the league table with four games left before the end of the season.
Coupled with the drop in point, the defeat also saw Chelsea make an unwanted record of five consecutive defeats without scoring a goal for the first time in 114 years.
According to Reuters, Rosenior lasted less than four months in the role after his January appointment following Enzo Maresca’s departure.
He becoming the latest casualty of Chelsea’s turbulent season after seven defeats in their last eight matches across all competitions.
However, the club in a statement issued earlier today, expressed its gratitude to the former Hull City player for his short spell at the club.
“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior,” the club said in a statement.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.
“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season.” The statement read.
The club said Calum McFarlane would take charge of the team as interim head coach until the end of the season.
