Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has addressed speculations about his 2027 presidential ambition, stating that he’s old enough to declare his intentions when the time comes.
He made the assessment at Fashola Farm in Ibadan on Saturday after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) retreat.
Makinde emphasised that nobody could push his political agenda and that he would announce his intentions explicitly.
He recalled his 2019 governorship election where he was considered an outsider without political experience, but the people of Oyo State gave him a chance, hence Nigeria must not slide into a one-party state.
He highlighted his infrastructural projects and declared that he had created sustainable institutions and ensured good governance.
“We didn’t do this because somebody has a presidential ambition,”
“But I am old enough, and if I want to do something, I will come out and say, ‘This is what I want to do.’ Nobody can push my agenda.”
”Oyo people made a decision in 2019 without any godfather backing. We came in with no experience in governance, but we’ve made progress.”
“The one takeaway from this is that Nigeria must not slide into a one-party state.”
