The Nigeria Customs Service alongside the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to combat illicit substances and pharmaceutical products in the country.
This was contained in a statement via NAFDAC’s X handle, @NafdacAgency, on Thursday.
According to the statement, It is aimed at bolstering national security and public health.
The strategic partnership was formalised during the 2024 Comptroller-General of Customs Conference in Abuja.
Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi highlighted the significance of this collaboration, which follows years of dialogue between the agencies, emphasising the importance of real-time intelligence sharing.
He expressed confidence that this agreement would mark a turning point in curbing the entry of dangerous products into Nigeria and protecting future generations.
The Director General, NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye described the MoU as vital for ensuring the safety and quality of regulated products, which Nigerians rely on daily.
She underlined the threats posed by unregulated products to national security and pledged that this partnership would put an end to such practices, benefiting the entire nation.
