The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has said that if it was not for God’s intervention, naira could have hit N10,000 per dollar.
The cleric made the assertion at the church’s Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja.
“I called on my people to pray, and many joined in. Because the way the naira was declining, if God had not intervened, by now, $1 would be about N10,000.
“But God stepped in, showing us that we need prayers.”
According to him, the country is in need of divine help and not human help.
“When you quote me, quote me accurately. We need help — divine help — not human help. If we want restoration, we must first admit something is missing.”
Adeboye further established that prior to Tinubu’s assumption of office, a major financial problem in the country was funds spent on fuel importation.
“Before our president came in, everybody knew that the reason we were having financial problems is the fact that a lot of money was being spent to import petrol.
“How can we be importing petrol when we have this resource in abundance here?
“We spent billions of naira on our refineries, and yet they didn’t work. So, we had to keep on importing fuel,” he added.
They created problems, and suddenly, the naira began to decline rapidly,” Adeboye added.
This statements has come with a trail of reactions from many social media users particularly as this is a time when the country’s economy is facing many reforms.
Stephen Osemwegie, @PeterObiUSA, noted on X that prayers did not stop the decline in Naira but rather the Naira was wrongly floated by the Tinubu-led administration.
“Prayer did not stop Naira decline. Rather, the currency was wrongly floated by Tinubu administration at the same time of removing fuel subsidy.
“When they saw the writing on the wall as Naira fell astronomically, they re-introduced an arbitrary peg to $1=N1500/N1600 for over a year. At a huge financial cost to CBN who sells to FX traders at a reduced cost.
“We need prayers indeed, but the prayer point is for God to save Nigeria from ignorance, fanatics, tribalism, nepotism, corruption and tyranny.”
