Ven. Edwin Achi, the abducted Archdeacon of the Anglican Communion, Kaduna Diocese, has tragically passed away in his kidnapper’s den after a month in captivity.
Achi was reportedly kidnapped alongside his wife from their home in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, near the Kaduna Refinery, by gunmen on the 28th of October 2025.
The news of his death is coming barely 24 hours after the kidnappers released a picture of the clergyman with his wife and other abducted people.
According to reports, the assailants had shared the picture of the clergyman and his wife as a proof life while demanding N600 million ransom for their release.
Unfortunately, Achi passed away shortly after the post with the Anglican Diocese of Kaduna confirming his death in a statement shared on X.
The church would further disclose that the late clergyman was kidnapped alongside his daughter too.
“The Venerable Edwin, who was kidnapped alongside his wife on 28th October, 2025, has been confirmed dead.
“His transition is a painful loss to the entire Diocese, the clergy, the Church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God.
“We continue to pray for the release of his wife and daughter who are still in the hands of kidnappers.” The statement read.
