A popular actor and comedian, Williams Uchemba, has alleged that officials of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company are demanding gratifications before his estate could be supplied light during this Christmas season.
Uchemba, who went on social media to speak about the development in a video, said his estate located in a eyebrow part of Ikoyi has been in darkness for days.
The actor said when the chairman of the estate reached out to the boss of the electricity company, he only said “come and see me.”
According to Uchemba, the electricity company’s boss’s demand to be “seen” is another way of soliciting for gratification.
“Is this your father’s company?” he demanded in the short video where he also lamented the agony his family members are going through because of the epileptic supply of power.
“Is it when all of us go mad because I am going mad in this country. I love this country so much but at the same time, I hate the system of this country to the point that I now believe that whatever you do, try and have a second address. Somebody said that thing recently. Whatever you, have Nigerian visa and have the visa of another country because of madness.
“I live in an estate where they said they don’t take light.,” he said adding that he now been informed that whenever it is festive season, the power supplies become unstable.
“tell me why there is no light in my estate for two days now, in the most expensive slum of Ikoyi. ”
Uchemba said the problems have been compounded by lack of diesel saying “My driver has been driving all over Lagos, and there is no diesel. And so, we have called NEPA (electricity company) ‘how far?’ NEPA said Estate chairman should come and see him. Is this your father’s business? The audacity! No reason. We are not owing. Transformer did not burn. You just off light because you want to eat Christmas rice. You off the light because you want the estate chairman should come and see you.” he alleged
The actor said he had approached neighbour for diesiel if they could sell to him even at double the price. He said with high cost of diesel, the system is driving many rich people crazy.
