Department of State Services, has again reaffirmed that the Agency is not responsible for the arrest of one of the #EndBadGovernance Protest Organizers, Micheal Adaramoye.
Addressing the public in a Press Conference held by Nigeria’s Security Chiefs earlier today, the agency’s Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunaya, dismissed claims surrounding the arrest of the protester by the agency.
While narrating his initial reaction to the incident, Afunaya stated that not all personnel in mufti are DSS officials as against the misconception of members of the public.
“I issued a statement on our Twitter handle and I said the DSS can confirm that Adaramoye Micheal was not in the custody of the DSS and I want to repeat it, he is not with us.
“Anyone in mufti does not suggest that the person is a DSS personnel. That anyone is in suit does not make the person a DSS or Intelligence Officer. Most times, people misconstrue the outward dressing of any person as DSS.
“Many allegations that has risen as to the conduct of persons who are in mufti during this period, they are not our staffs and I can categorically state that our operations are clearly ruled by standard operating procedures. Our officers are accountable in the issuance of arms.
“If we arrest any person, we will declare that to the public and we will admit that the person has been arrested.” He said.
Recall that the activist was allegedly arrested by members of the agency yesterday with the ‘Take it Back Movement’ demanding his immediate release.
