Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has converted 67 security operatives attached to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology’s (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital from ad hoc workers to permanent staff.
Makinde had, in an engagement with the institution’s management and staff on Thursday, gave the directive after one of the security men recounted their ordeal with the poor salary paid to them.
As captured in a video shared on Facebook, the security man who said he is father of three children disclosed that they are being paid N18,800 per month.
The security man, largely addressing the governor in Yoruba, pleaded for his intervention over their plight.
“We are not staff, yet we are indigenes of Oyo state. Please come to our rescue.
“We are suffering. I have family with three children. Where do I want to go? And I’m getting older day by day.” He said.
Makinde, in reaction, sought confirmation from a member of the hospital management who disclosed that the security officials were outsourced with the company responsible for their recruitment paid N27,000 per head.
“Your Excellency, they are actually not staff of this hospital. The security of this hospital is outsourced. It is given to a company who recruit whosoever it wants.” The LAUTECH official said.
Makinde thereafter ordered the conversion of the workers into permanent staff with a pay rise from N18,800 to N80,000.
“I can solve the problem right away by saying they should convert all the 67 directly and you will get paid N80,000 every month.” He said.
This had sparked wild jubilation from other members of staff present at the event as they expressed their gratitude to the governor.
