A group of Television Continental (TVC) journalists have on Wednesday come under assault by officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) over their coverage of the damaged Kugbo Bus Terminal at the Abuja capital city.
NPO earlier Reported that a heavy rainstorm on Tuesday had caused devastating damage to the terminal commissioned late last year.
Videos shared on X showed debris of the detached roof of the terminal strewed across the highway, obstructing traffic flow.
In the wake of the incident, TVC had deployed its crew to the terminal on Wednesday.
They would however be challenged by the terminal officials with videos showing the officials attempting to seize the camera of the journalists.
According to the TVC, the crew resisted the officials, leading to a brief confrontation.
“Tension flared at the Kugbo Bus Terminal after officials at the facility attempted to seize a camera belonging to TVC News during coverage of damage at the terminal,” TVC said.
Other journalists present were also reportedly intimidated and barred from filming the site.
“Officials confronted our correspondent and tried to confiscate their equipment, sparking a brief standoff. Other journalists present were also harassed and prevented from carrying out their work.” The station added.
