The Ogun Magistrate’s Court 1, sitting in Sagamu has again adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji, driver of former heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.
NPO Reported that Mobolaji was arraigned to court following his arrest over the fatal road crash involving the boxer and his friends on December 29, 2025.
The 46-year-old driver was behind the wheels of the Lexus SUV which rammed into a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident claimed the life of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
Joshua fortunately survived the accident with minor injuries.
Mobolaji, on the other hand, was arrested and arraigned on four counts charge, which include allegations of dangerous driving causing death.
Mobolaji was reportedly charged with allegations of reckless and negligent driving, contrary to Section 6(1) of the same Act, driving without due care and attention, causing bodily harm, and damage to property, contrary to Section 7(1) of the Act.
He was also accused of driving without a valid national driver’s licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act.
However, his trial had repeatedly being adjourned with the latest development marking the fourth time the trial will be adjourned.
Presiding over the case on Thursday, Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun, adjourned the trial till 2nd of June 2026 to allow the prosecuting team to file a fresh charge to the existing information on the case.
Somefun’s adjournment of the trial was based on the request of the prosecution counsel, G. O. Ogunyomi, which was not objected to by the defence counsel.
Speaking shortly after the proceeding, the counsel to the defendant, Abiodun Olalekan, said the development was to ensure justice for all parties involved in the matter.
