Jackson Udom, an aide to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has said the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) should provide clarification on why Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s passport was seized.
Recall that NPO reported that the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, had in the early hours of Tuesday alleged that officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) prevented her from traveling abroad by withholding her passport.
She alleged that the Senate President had instructed the officers to prevent her from leaving the country.
She had described the actions against her as politically motivated and without legal basis.
She said there was no court order restricting her travel and accused officials of repeated harassment.
In response to the accusations that Akpabio ordered her passport seizure, Udom told NPO Reports:
“He who alleges must prove.”
He further stated that the matter rests with the immigration authorities, who are responsible for explaining the action and the legal basis for it.
The NIS is yet to issue an official statement as at the time of filing this report.
Recall that the Kogi senator recently resumed at the Upper chamber of the National Assembly after serving months of suspension slammed on her by the Senate.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and intimidation in the senate.
An investigating panel set up by the senate president had found her guilty slamming on her a six months suspension.
She later resumed after serving out her suspension from the senate.
Just last week, she had invited Akpabio and other senators to the inauguration of her constituency project which many saw as an extension of olive branch from the senator.
