The last rein of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holding Enugu state is set to be severed as the All Progressive Congress (APC) flags flooded the state government’s house on Monday ahead of Governor Peter Mbah’s defection from the PDP to APC.
Mbah’s planned defection was on Friday announced by the APC during the swearing-in ceremony of the party’s caretaker committee in Enugu.
Addressing journalists after his swearing-in at the APC National Secretariat, the Enugu APC Caretaker Chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye, said the governor would join the ruling party with several lawmakers and key leaders across the state.
With the governor tipped to join the party this week, officials and members of his cabinet on Monday expressed their support and readiness to decamp with the governor as they stormed the government house with APC flags.
As captured in a video seen by NPO Reports, the members of the cabinet were seen in the government house singing as they hoister the APC flag above their heads.
Peter Mbah’s defection would see him join the likes of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevowri, and his Akwa-Ibom counterpart, Umo Eno, in the list of recently added governors in the APC camp.
This would also see the PDP left with nine governors out of the 36 state governors.
The remaining governors include Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Muhammed (Bauchi), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).
