The Speaker of the Ogun state House of Assembly, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has been impeached. Oluomo was immediately replaced with Hon. Oludaisi Elemide .
Eighteen members out of the 36 members of State Assembly voted for Oluomo’s impeachment at plenary session on Tuesday.
Those against Oluomo cited embezzlement and high handedness as part of his offence.
Hon Damilola Soneye Kayode representing Obafemi/Owode state constituency, said Oluomo was guilty of embezzling funds meant for the entire House asking the removed Speaker to go and clear his name at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Kayode said many times the Governor had approved funds for members, but the Impeached speaker would lie to members that no funds had been approved. “But we later found that the Governor has been approving money for us. Let me give you an instance, the governor approved funds for the renovation of our official quarters. But Oluomo said there was no money and we should be managing. We have been managing but we are tired of it.”
