A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday has granted former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, his wife, Asabe Bashir, and their son, Abdulaziz Malami, N200 million bail each in the ongoing N9 billion money laundering trial. before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
NPO Reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned the former AGF alongside his wife and son on a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering.
Delivering her verdict on the bail application, the trial judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, granted each defendant N200 million bail with two sureties in like sum
Abdumalik ordered that one of the sureties must deposit title deeds of properties located in either Maitama or Asokoro, both highbrow districts of Abuja.
The judge also directed the defendants to deposit their international passports with the court.
She subsequently adjourned the matter until March 16, 2026, for the commencement of the trial.
Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, Malami, his wife and their son are to remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
