The Nigeria Police must immediately release Daniel Ojukwu and end this relentless attack on freedom of the press
Global Human Rights Organization, Amnesty International, has urged the Nigerian Police to released detained journalist, Daniel Ojukwu.
Ojukwu who is a journalist with Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), was detained by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
According to FIJ, Ojukwu is currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti in Lagos State, on offences of alleged cybercrime.
According to FIJ, Ojukwu went missing on Wednesday, May 1, with his phone numbers turned off, leaving his whereabouts unknown to colleagues, family, and friends.
Amnest International in an X post has therefore tagged the arrest of Ojukwu as an attack on the freedom of the press.
“The Nigeria Police must immediately release Daniel Ojukwu and end this relentless attack on freedom of the press.
“He went missing on Wednesday 1 May 2024. It was later discovered that he was in custody of the police following his arrest by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT)”
