Amnesty International has called on the Borno State Government to release the detained minors in custody over participation in the End Bad Governance protest.
This was contained in an X post by the civil society organization, on Monday.
“Borno state government is still putting minors through a sham trial for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protest.
“Those on trial have already spent over three months detained in a deplorable condition.
“All those on trial for protesting must be released unconditionally.”
NPO reports that the End Bad Governance held across the nationwide from the 1st to 10th of August 2024 over the deploring economic situation.
It would be recalled that following the protest, 76 were individuals arrested in different parts of the country in connection with the protest.
The minors were arraigned over alleged involvement in vandalization that occurred during the EndBadGovernance protest.
NPO also reports that barely a month ago, reports of a malnourished looking minor who was also being arraigned for involvement in the protest slumped at the Federal High Court came to public and sparked nationwide outrage.
Meanwhile, few days after this occurrence, the charges filed against the 76 minors was struck out by a Federal High Court in Abuja, following the Federal Government’s withdrawal.
