Renowned Nollywood movie producer, Kunle Afolayan, has again slammed critics of his recently released series, Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awaken.
The movie, which had since its release drawn public spotlight and controversies to Afolayan, tend to have failed to appeal to some viewers who criticised the complexity of its plots.
Reacting in a post shared on his Instagram handle on Wednesday, the movie producer fired back at the critics as he held that his movies only appeal to intellectual people.
While recalling facing similar criticism in his previous works, Afolayan urged fellow filmmakers to ignore critics of their movies and move on with their projects.
“I’ve come across different types of reviews and critics from both those who knows about film and those who doesn’t.
“All I want to say is for those who have followed my work from inception, I remember when I did Irapada.
“When the film came out, some people critiqued it. They called it all sorts. At the end of the day, the film travelled and got awarded internationally.
“And then we moved to the Figurine. I remember when we did figurine, some people were like no.
“All I want to say is as a filmmaker, don’t listen. Just keep making your films. For those who follow our films, there is something that is very peculiar to the kind of film we make.
“We make films for the intellectuals not gbasgbos. We make films for people who can think.” He said.
Afolayan maintained that the Anikulapo series have attracted commendations from scholars and deep thinkers.
He however urged the critics do desist from making conclusion about the movie as he explained that the movie like other well-known series comprised just few episodes of the entire plot of the story.
Afolayan also disclosed that what appeared to be complication in the sequel of actions in the movie are just newly introduced plots which will developed in subsequent series.
“Again, I’m not expecting that everybody will like my film, and I don’t even expect that everybody will understand the film.
“But I expect that the people I’m trying to appeal to, the people that are at the back of my mind when I was even conceiving the ideas, I know they will get it and they got it.
“I’ve read from scholars, Professors, deep thinkers, and from people who don’t only think about now, I’ve heard from them.
“I just want to say I appreciate. To those who really don’t care or who are saying they don’t understand it, let me break it down in layman term.
“It is a series that has many episodes. What you have seen are just few of the episodes. How do you conclude in your brain that it is not good when you have not even seen the entire thing?
“When you watch series like Game of Thrones and the rest of them, in fact you have to wait every week before a new episode comes out.
“So, you haven’t even seen and then you concluded that okay how come the stories are all over the place?
“We have created new plots. Those who understand literature understood it and they got it.
“Those who don’t understand, maybe you should ask those who understood. They will explain better to you.” He added.
