The Lagos State Government has warned motorists against patronizing fake vehicle documentation agents.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, gave the warning in a statement issued on Thursday.
Osiyemi disclosed that some motorists have been observed to possess fake Roadworthiness Certificates and other Vehicle Particulars across the state.
The Commissioner maintained that vehicle documentation is statutorily done by authorised agencies under the transportation ministry as he condemned the issuance of fake documents to unsuspecting motorists.
“The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has noticed that some unscrupulous individuals are issuing fake vehicle documents like Roadworthiness Certificates and other Vehicle Particulars to unsuspecting motorists across the State.
“The Ministry strongly condemns this fraudulent practice and wishes to state unequivocally that vehicle documentation is a statutory function carried out only by duly authorized agencies of the Ministry.
“Any document issued outside these official channels is invalid and constitutes a serious offence.” Osiyemi wrote.
He urged motorists to desist from patronising the fake agents, warning that anyone caught engaging in such act will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Motorists are hereby advised to desist from patronizing unauthorized individuals or groups for vehicle documentation, as doing so not only endangers public safety but also exposes them to legal consequences.
“The Ministry assures the public that in collaboration with security agencies, enforcement operations have been intensified to apprehend those involved in this illegal activity.
“Anyone caught engaging in such acts will be made to face the full wrath of the law.” The Commissioner wrote.
Osiyemi further urged members of the public to verify the authenticity of service providers before engaging them and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities or to these phone numbers 09020004000 or 09020009000.
