Students at Gateway Polytechnic Sapaade, Ogun state, have been left in fear after series of attacks by armed robbers on their hostel.
One of the friends of a student killed two days ago, has raised fresh concerns about the safety of students within the institution.
According to a video on twitter, an eyewitness said armed robbers have been targeting students specifically.
He said the attacks have been carried out more on students and not the indigenous community.
This, he said, has raised questions about the motives behind these attacks and the lack of intervention from the authorities.
“As at 12 am this morning, I got a call that my friend was shot on the head and confirmed dead today. The government aren’t making any attempts to stop this act. It is getting out of hands. I will advise all students should go to their various homes.
“Everyone should stay safe first. It has become a daily act now, the arm robbers are attacking students only, they aren’t attacking the indigene at all.
“I told my friend that everybody should go to their house. I told him more than five times because the armed robbery stuff is getting too much. It has become a normal thing in Sapaade, Gateway, it has become a normal thing.
“They rob students of their things and they don’t do that to Indigenes and their kings. There is governor in that place and they are not doing anything about it,” the witness said.
Despite the repeated incidents, students claim that the school authorities have not taken sufficient action to address the security concerns.
He said this has led to growing frustration among the student body, who are calling on the government to step in and ensure their safety.
