The 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ikeja, has handed over a 36-year-old suspect, Animashaun Khalid, to the Lagos State Police Command after he was arrested for impersonating an Army Major.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended at the Arena Market, Oshodi with a forged Nigerian Army identity card bearing his name and the rank of Major by soldiers.
He was immediately handed over to the Police command with the case assigned to Special Squad I to conduct a thorough investigation.
The investigation is reportedly aimed at tracing the source of the forgery, identifying accomplices, and determining whether the suspect used the fake identity to commit other offences.
Upon conclusion of the investigation, the case would be charged to court accordingly.
In his remark, the Lagos Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the Nigerian Army for the swift arrest and prompt handover.
He stressed the importance of synergy among security agencies in tackling crime.
