A 300-level Building student of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Abel Gacho Joro, has died from the injuries sustained during the fatal Palm Sunday attack by gunmen in Plateau state.
NPO Reported that the gunmen had stormed a popular bar at Angwa Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
The gunmen opened fire indiscriminately at the gathering, killing at least 28 people with several others injured.
Abel was reportedly among the two students who was injured during the attack.
He was however placed on Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and listed among survivors.
According to a post shared on X on Monday, Abel unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
His death was confirmed by the UNIJOS Student Union President, Younglan Tongpus.
According to Tongus, Abel died in the hospital yesterday.
“Yes, it is true. He died on Easter Sunday. He was one of the victims of last Sunday’s attack at Angwan Rukuba and had been in the ICU until his death,” he reportedly said.
His death was also confirmed on Monday morning by Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Plateau State.
According to reports, Dachomo took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to express deep sorrow over the tragic loss.
“Abel Gacho Joro, a young 200 level student of UniJos full of life, full of dreams, full of hope is gone tonight,” he wrote.
“After fighting with everything he had to stay alive in the Intensive Care Unit at JUTH… this is too painful, this is too heavy for the heart to carry.” Dachomo added.
