The Nigerian Army has said reports of a military take over is not true.
The army was reacting to a report by an online publication (not the NPO Reports) which claimed that the Brigade of Guards, an elite wing of the Military has been placed on a red alert to foil any mutiny within the Nigerian army.
Responding to the report online the Nigerian Army, through its verified X handle, simply responded, “FAKE NEWS.”
There have been speculations about possible military action in the country as a result of growing concerns over the economy.

The West African subcontinent has witnessed coups in Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali.
Just on Saturday the Economic Community of West Africa lifted its sanctions against the the countries under military rule.
