The Academic Staff Union of Universities has described as deceitful the latest move by the Federal Government to set up a new committee to renegotiate agreements it had with the union in 2013.
President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, while speaking on an Arise TV programme Monday night, described as unpatriotic and insensitive the decision to now raise a new panel to commence negotiations.
Osodeke said the move is to buy time and frustrate the union.
He said the action of the government is killing education and destroying the future of Nigerian youths.
The Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, had on Monday inaugurated the committee.
He said the government did not think of renegotiating when the union was giving indications of embarking on a one month warning strike.
“Now, the strike is in its fourth week and that is when they are setting up the committee. And the committee will have three months to submit its reports.
“This is just to buy time. It is sad.” He said
