The mood is upbeat for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party today in Edo State as the party flags off its campaign in the state.
Its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, arrived at the state capital, Benin with other party heavyweights to shore up support for the party. Though, the state governorship election is an off-season election, residents of the state will vote for the presidential candidates of their choice and members of the National Assembly and State Assembly next year.
State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who defected to the party from the All Progressive Congress to win his second term in office, had expressed concerns over the rate at which the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, was amassing backings especially of younger Nigerians.
Obaseki led other party chieftains to receive Atiku at the airport on Saturday.
