Former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the massacre of traders and residents in a deadly attack on Kasuwan Daji market in Demo community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
NPO earlier Reported that suspected terrorists had on Saturday evening stormed the market, killing over 30 people with several others abducted in a deadly attack that lasted till the early hours of Sunday.
Reacting to the development in a post shared on his X handle, Atiku decried the attack over defenceless communities.
The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate expressed his condolences to families who have lost loved ones to the attack.
He thereafter called for the strengthening of the country’s security architecture and restoration of confidence in the affected communities.
The statement read; “I am deeply saddened by the heinous attacks on communities in Agwarra and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, which have led to the loss of scores of innocent lives and the abduction of several residents, including schoolchildren.
“This brazen level of brutality against defenseless communities is unacceptable and deeply troubling.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and I stand in solidarity with the people and government of Niger State during this painful moment.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, those abducted, particularly the children, and I urge the relevant authorities to act swiftly to secure their safe and unconditional release.
“The primary duty of any government is the protection of lives and property. We must strengthen our security architecture, restore confidence in affected communities, and bring the perpetrators of these atrocities to justice.”
