No fewer than 15 people have been injured in a gas explosion on Sunday at Ijora Badia, a suburb of Lagos. The blast, which occurred around 5:00 p.m., was reportedly caused by a leaking 25-kilogramme gas cylinder inside a mini shop. The shop was part of a bungalow complex that also housed 15 self-contained rooms and seven other shops. According to an eyewitness, Mr Kabiru Ahmed, the explosion caused extensive damage, although no fatalities were recorded. The Federal Government has on Sunday said that the temporary repair work on Independence Bridge in Lagos State was proving to be a permanent solution. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported a rising number of suspected cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) cases across the country. The NCDC’s official website stated on Sunday that, during the epidemiological week of March 17-23, 2025, 315 suspected cases were reported in three states: Kebbi, Sokoto, and Yobe. It said out of these, 38 cases were confirmed positive, resulting in 14 reported deaths, yielding a concerning case fatality rate (CFR) of 4.4per cent. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 75-year-old, Felix Nnanna, with 1.6kg skunk, a strain of cannabis. Nnana was arrested during a raid at Umunteke Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area (LGA) in Abia.
