The Senate has passed the 2014 Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Bill, following the adoption of the report by the Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions. The report was presented by the committee’s chairman, Sen. Abiru Adetokunbo (APC-Lagos), during Tuesday’s plenary session. Adetokunbo explained that the bill, which was read a second time on July 18, sought to consolidate various existing laws regulating insurance businesses in Nigeria. One person has been confirmed dead in a fatal road crash on Third Mainland Bridge. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), disclosed this in an X post on Monday morning. The incident involving a J5 Ford bus (FKJ 724 YC) and a Mercedes truck (FKJ 746 YC) occurred at Ilubirin inward Osborne along the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge also resulted in four persons being injured. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it recorded a 12.8 per cent reduction in Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) between January and October 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted N3.3billion worth of shipments of meth and “loud”, a strong synthetic strain of cannabis. The Director of Media and Advocacy in the agency, Mr Femi Babafemi, disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja.
