An unidentified soldier has reportedly stabbed a police Inspector, Saka Ganiyu to death at the Ojo axis of Lagos State. The deceased police officer was attached to a Lagos State task force. A credible source, who confirmed the death to NAN on Thursday in Lagos, said that the incident occurred on Wednesday about 6.30 a.m. at Volks Bus Stop on Lagos-Badagry Road. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has, again, appealed the acquittal of a former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, of money laundering charges. EFCC had arraigned Ikuforiji alongside his former aide, Oyebode Atoyebi, on a 54-count charge bordering on alleged N338.8 million money laundering. However, Justice Mohammed Liman, on June 24, 2024, acquitted Ikuforiji of the charges. Dissatisfied with the judgment, EFCC has filed a notice of appeal challenging the judgment. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers to challenge the lower court judgment affirming Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers House of Assembly. A three-member panel of justices, in a unanimous judgment, held that the appeal was bereft of merit. The panel, upheld the judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Jan. 22. The Federal Government, on Thursday prayed a Federal High Court in Abuja to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the Managing Director (MD) of Dana Air, Mr Hathiramani Ranesh. The federal government alleged that Ranesh has refused to appear for his arraignment in the alleged N1.3 billion fraud. Mojisola Okeya, Counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), made the oral application before Justice Obiora Egwuatu following Ranesh’s absence in court for his arraignment. The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has announced the implementation of zero Value Added Tax (VAT) and Excise Duties on pharmaceutical products and medical devices. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa on Wednesday in Abuja.
