By Halimah Olamide A Ghanaian court has sentenced a Nigerian woman to eight years of hard labor over human trafficking. The woman has been identified as Favour Ugwe (28). She was sentenced Thursday, September 19, after being found guilty of trafficking a 19-year-old woman from Chad for exploitation in Ghana. The court also ordered to pay GH¢5,000 as compensation to the victim. The convict had admitted to recruiting the victim from Abuja, Nigeria, with the assistance of another Nigerian man, and paying for her transportation to Ghana. By Halimah Olamide The Nigerian Railway Corporation generated N1.69 billion as revenue from passengers in Q2 of 2024, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said. This is contained in the NBS Rail Transportation Data for Q2 2024 released in Abuja on Thursday. The report showed that the figure increased by 53.14 per cent compared to the N1.10 billion generated in Q2 of 2023. Dr Emomotimi Agama, the Director-General (D-G) of SEC in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, said the listing of the companies on the NGX would guarantee democratization of their operations. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday in Ibadan began the destruction of fake products worth N43 billion. The exercise tagged “Investigation and Enforcement, Lagos destruction of fake, expired, substandard and falsified drugs, medical devices and unwholesome regulated products”, was carried out at Moniya dump site, Ibadan. The NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Christianah Adeyeye, was represented by NAFDAC Deputy Director, Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Mr Shaba Mohammed.
