At least, 31 people have been confirmed dead during a stampede at a church in Port Harcourt ,Rivers State Capital. The stampede happened at The Kings Assembly located inside the GRA of the Capital city. Spokesperson of the Rivers Police, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed that the church was holding a crusade which ran into the early hours of Saturday. The church had witnessed a huge crowd as a result of a palliative programme for which many had come to benefit from. The accreditation of national delegates for the 2022 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention has commenced at Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that delegates from different states of the federation are arriving the venue for accreditation. Delegates are being accredited simultaneously state by state using the six geopolitical zones. A two-week warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP which started on the 16th of May has been suspended. A statement by the national publicity secretary of the Union, Abdullahi Yalwa directed members of the union to resume work on Monday the 30th of May, stated that within the two weeks of the definite strike, part of the demands of the union were met by the federal government. Another presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has withdrawn from the race, few hours to the commencement of the party’s national convention.
