Dutch police have overpowered a hostage-taker by knocking him down with a police vehicle as he ran out of an Apple store in Amsterdam. What began as an armed robbery evolved into a five-hour hostage drama, reportedly involving a 44-year-old British man held at gunpoint. There were pockets of violence in some parts of Osun on Wednesday as the Peoples Democratic Party held its ward congress across the state. There were reports of gunshots in some parts of the state as warring factions of the party drew the daggers to outwit each other to gain control of the party. It was learnt that at Ward 14, Iwo Local Government Area, there were gunshots while some wielded other dangerous weapons. The Ebonyi Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it seized 243,520 kilogrammes of illicit drugs in the state in 2021. The command also said that 238 persons were arrested for allegedly trafficking illicit drugs within the period. The agency’s Deputy Commander in the state, Mrs Amaka Ekwalor, disclosed this at a news conference in Abakaliki on Wednesday.
