Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has been convicted of defrauding investors after a months-long landmark trial in California. Prosecutors said Holmes knowingly lied about technology she said could detect diseases with a few drops of blood. Jurors found Holmes guilty of four charges, including conspiracy to commit fraud against investors and three counts of wire fraud. She denied the charges, which carry a maximum prison term of 20 years each. Holmes was not taken into custody, with no date confirmed yet for sentencing and a further hearing scheduled next week. The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sudan, Volker Perthes, on Monday expressed regret over Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok’s decision to step down. According to news agencies, Hamdok resigned after another day of mass protests that rocked the capital of the country, Khartoum. Six persons died while 12 sustained injuries on Monday in an accident involving a Mistubishi canter and a Mazda bus, around Lala/Kere area of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway. The Police Command in Katsina State said that it recovered no less than 109 Anti-Aircraft Ammunition (AA) and other items from bandits between January and December 2021 in the state.
