The first shipment of humanitarian aid has arrived in Gaza via a temporary floating pier, the US military has confirmed. US Central Command said that aid trucks began moving ashore at about 09:00 local time (07:00 BST) on Friday. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the delivery of 8,400 plastic shelters was “the culmination of a herculean joint international effort”. By Halimah Olamide Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested two over suspected ilicit forex trading. The duo were arrested on Friday, May 10, 2024. The suspects have however been identified as Surajo Umar and Muhammed Sadiq Lawal. They were arrested at Udi Street in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State while selling dollars without appropriate licences. Their arrest followed credible intelligence available to the EFCC on their suspected involvement in illegal foreign exchange transactions. According to the anti-graft agency, they will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
Israeli forces have recovered the bodies of three hostages from Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say. The bodies were those of Shani Louk, Amit Buskila, and Itzhak Gelerenter, it said. The IDF said they had been murdered on 7 October and their remains taken back to Gaza. Local media reported that the bodies were found in a Hamas tunnel. About 1,200 people were killed in an unprecedented attack when Hamas gunmen burst into Israel. They took 252 others back to Gaza as hostages. Thunderstorms have killed four people and knocked out power to nearly a million homes and businesses in south-east Texas. “We have a storm with 100 mph winds, the equivalent of Hurricane Ike, considerable damage downtown,” said the mayor of Houston, John Whitmire. Two deaths came from fallen trees and one from a crane blown over. The storm has now moved on to neighbouring Louisiana with flood warnings in place for the Gulf Coast.
