The Lagos State Government has backtracked on its decision to re- open the Ladipo market, saying that the market remains closed. The Managing Director, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, made the clarification on Monday in Lagos. Gbadegesin said that the market would remain closed because it had been observed that its management had not fully met stipulated mandatory safety and environmental measures earlier outlined by the authority. Mrs Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr., the late 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lagos, says the late student had no health challenge before the complaints he made few days to his death. Rosemary said this while being cross-examined by counsel to Dowen College, Mr Anthony Kpokpo. The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), on Monday, confirmed that 117 children died following Diphtheria outbreak in Yobe since 2022. The Agency, however, said that 1,600 children had recovered from the disease within the period under review. Dr Faisal Shuaib, the Executive-Director of the Agency, stated this during an inspection visit to the Diphtheria isolation centre in Potiskum, the epicentre of the disease in the state. No fewer than six persons have sustained various injuries when a petroleum tanker exploded on Monday at Sandaji Filling Station in Lafia, Nasarawa State. The tanker which brought petroleum product to the filling station located at Jos Road Lafia, exploded around 12:00pm. Comfort Igwe, a pump attendant at the station told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the explosion occured while the tanker was discharging its product.
