Norwegian author Jon Fosse has won the Nobel Prize in Literature “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable,’’ the Swedish Academy announced on Thursday. Anders Olsson, chair of the Nobel Committee for Literature, described Fosse as one of the most recognised and widely performed playwrights of our time. He is also acclaimed for his novels, children’s books, short stories, essays and poetry. Google on Thursday announced 11 African startups for the first cohort of its “Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First” programme. The Head of Startup Ecosystem, Africa, Folarin Aiyegbusi, said in a statement that the 11 startups were picked from a vast pool of innovative talents using cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said that these start-ups used cutting edge AI to address Africa’s challenges and broader global issues. The Nigerian Army Special Court Martial sitting in Abuja, has fixed Oct. 10 for judgment in a case of stealing, forgery, misappropriation and conspiracy brought against a Major General. The accused, Maj.-Gen. Umaru Muhammed, was the erstwhile Group Managing Director (GMD) of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL).
