An Islamic cleric Ademosu Ahmed Adeshola on Sunday linked dwindling fortunes of the Nigerian currency to poor governance.
He said that the current migration of Nigerians to other parts of the world is another reflection of the years of maladministration that the country has gone through.
While speaking as the Guest Lecturer at the Abdul-Rafih Masjid Rotimi Williams Estate Muslim Community, Iju Lagos on Sunday, the cleric reminded those present that Ramadan is an opportunity for all humans to renew themselves.
Adeshola said when Nigeria was good no one reckoned with foreign currencies such as Dollars or Pound Sterling.
He said the current ‘japa’ syndrome that has become prevalent is a misnomer adding when Nigeria was good, people merely travelled abroad to study and return to take up good jobs in their country.
He added that the exchange rate today is an indication that the country has been run aground asking all to pray.
He blamed politicians and bureaucrats for the state of the country adding that all the troubles would vanish if leaders and followers change their ways.
The Cleric said democracy is good but won’t work for people who are not prepared to fear God.
He said most politicians are selfish adding that they take care of themselves only leaving their followers to their own devices.
Speaking on the theme: Ramadan and social reegineering, Adeshola saidRamadan is an Opportunity for renewal because Itcomes to wash away all sins.
“Linguistically, Ramadan means melting all our sins.After Ramadan, all of us become like new babies,” he said
Reminding his audience God’s directive to them to fast every 9th month of the Islamic calendar, he said he the process of social Re-engineering is encapsulated in the principles entailed in fasting.
“When you say Re-engineering, it means there is something faulty which needs to be remedied,” he said
He said there is nothing anyone wants to do that the Quran has not dealt with.
He said, “The Quran is like a manual to the whole world that we have to follow as a nation, as individuals and as a group to the best of our ability
“By the time we understand the manual, we will then know how to deal with all issues related to living.

Adeshola added that Allah, who revealed the Quran knows everything adding that the Holy books is all-encompassing.
He said some of the problems created by social media peers groups and family disintegration could be cured with the knowledge of the Quran which he reminded was revealed during the month of Ramadan.
