The African football community has been thrown into mourning following the death of legendary Cameroonian footballer, Emmanuel Kunde.
NPO Reports learnt that he passed on in his sleep on Thursday May 15, 2025.
He was a key figure in the country’s football history and was instrumental in their victory at the 1984 and 1988 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kunde who also earned 102 caps for the Cameroon national team played a vital role in Cameroon’s appearance at the 1982 and 1990 FIFA World Cup.
His remains have been deposited at the Yaoundé Central Hospital mortuary, pending further announcements from his family
Born on July 15, 1956, in Ndom, Cameroon, Kunde’s football journey began with Mbankomo Club before he rose to prominence with Canon Yaoundé, where he spent a decade solidifying his reputation as a formidable defender.
His club career also included stints in France with Stade Lavallois and Stade de Reims, and he concluded his playing days with Olympic Mvolyé.
After retiring from professional football in 1992, he transitioned into coaching, managing teams including Canon Yaoundé and US Bitam in Gabon.
